Conversation starters

You're planning what you want to see and do during your first few weeks in your new job.

You know you need to be talking to as many people across your organisation and beyond.

But what should you be asking?

Here are some suggestions...

  1. What are you working/leading on & how can we support?

  2. What are the biggest challenges the organisation is facing (or will face in the near future?) and why?

  3. What are the opportunities?

  4. What would need to happen for us to make the most of these opportunities

  5. If you were me, what would you focus your attention on?

Of course, you need to be having conversations so go with the flow and ask questions that show you are interested in hearing what the individual has to say.

But having a handful of go-to questions gives you the opportunity to collate information and gather themes to inform your ongoing plans.
